Review of Aladdin (2019) by Cinemacreed — 28 May 2019
Live-action Aladdin is a great movie. The main characters performance, Aladdin and Jasmine, captured the escence of the originals . As for the genie, don't expect him to be the Robin Williams version of course, it is just not possible.
Yet, Will Smith as the genie turned out to be realy good, adding his prince of belair persona to the character and the songs, which to my surprise worked pretty well. The real problem with the movie is Jafar, which is the only reason why I don't give it a 10.
He lacks the evil, threatening villain traits of the original, that creppy lust he had for Jasmine and his hilarious relation with Iago. At least, the casting crew should have chosen a much taller, older and not hot actor.
Still, watching the movie is a great experience, if you liked the original you'll enjoy the live-action version.
