Review of Aladdin (1992) by Michael P — 10 May 2013
If Beauty & The Beast will go down as a timeless film, not being shaped by the decade it's in; then this is the opposite. Like Peter Pan, this will be a Disney movie you can tell what decade it was made; maybe not quintessentially 90's but quintessentially modern.
It's almost Shrek-like in how it modernises an ancient setting. Not that it's a bad thing, it's probably what makes it extra funny. Genie is one of my favourite Disney characters EVER, having Robin Williams do the voice was a very nice decision.
In fact that's another thing I love about this film, the characters. There's about... 8 main characters and I love them all. They're all amusing in their own way except Jasmin, she'd be the only one I don't like.
She's just a whiny bitch, mind you at least she has good, independence motives. Love the songs too. That being said, I can imagine there being a minority of people who don't like that sort of thing.
In that case they'll probably hate this.
