Review of Aladdin (1992) by James S — 17 Sep 2014
A classic film that adapts a very different setting than many Disney animation projects. In brief, Aladdin, a street urchin, discovers a magic lamp with a genie inside, and learns about truth and trust along the way.
Easily the most entertaining part of the film is Robin Williams as the genie. Pairing his natural quick-paced with lightning-fast visuals makes for a splendid experience every time the character is on screen. It moves a mile a minute, and is jam-packed with references to many aspects of pop culture, including Disney's own films (there's even a meta-reference to this very film). The rest of the voice cast performs well, but are somewhat overshadowed by Williams.
The musical numbers are wide-ranging, and really bring out the characters' emotions. All the characters are very well-defined and the plot gets you excited in all the right places.
