Review of Aladdin (1992) by David L — 26 Jan 2015
Undoubtedly one of the best Disney animations of all time thanks to its catchy soundtrack, genius comedy, and fairytale romance. Primarily this will be associated with the Genie as much as Aladdin given that this is probably one of Robin Williams' more notable performances, despite only being a voiceover.
It's like Mrs Doubtfire all over again with the brilliantly versatile and humorous take that Williams is able to add. The rest of the cast are equally entertaining from the pets Abu and Iago, to the villainous Jafar who I regard as one of my favourite baddies in Disney history.
In fact the main roles are relatively normal in comparison but they provide a wonderful lead romance, that is only spoilt by the association of Katie Price and Peter Andre covering the classic Whole New World tune.
The general story of a street rat going from rags to riches is wonderful for a child's imagination, especially when it encompasses the fantasy of having a genies three wishes, and of course it even has chance to pull on ones heart strings when that final wish is granted.
Before the Shrek series began, this was really the movie that had appeal to both children and adults with its blend of magical cinema coupled with subtle comedy. It's quite the captivating watch that is worth repeating time and time again.
