Review of Aladdin (1992) by James Z — 29 Mar 2018
A young "street-rat" named Aladdin (Scott Weinger) discovers a lamp in the Cave of Wonders which unleashes a fun-loving Genie (Robin Williams) that grants him three wishes that the young man hopes to uses to win the heart of Princess Jasmine (Linda Larkin) on the condition that Aladdin uses his last wish to set him free. But the evil sorcerer Jafar (Jonathan Freeman) and his crafty parrot Iago (Gilbert Gottfried) have other ideas...
One of the Disney Reaissance's crowning achivements, Aladdin's mixture of Robin Williams's Genie comedy and Jonathan Freeman and Gilbert Gottfreid's chemistry as villians, Howard Ashman, Alan Menken and Tim Rice's unforgettable numbers and Ron Clements and John Musker's touching themes about the importance of being yourself and freedom make this film a "Diamond in the Rough" for all ages.
