Review of Akira (1988) by Hassan S — 13 Aug 2012
I don't know much about Manga. I once went to a Manga exhibition in Tokyo but due to all the comics being in Japanese I stood little chance of understanding what was going on. I sort of felt the same way watching Akira.
There is so much going on in the story and the animation is so bold that I did feel as though my senses were about to overload. I can see why it is held in such high esteem, it's just perhaps not for me.
I felt the same way about Ghost in the Shell when I saw it which perhaps indicates that this may well be the case. I seem to be more comfortable within the more serene settings of the Studio Ghibli films, for now at least.
