Review of Akira (1988) by Rodrigo A — 30 Nov 2013
With kinetic energy and momentum like the protagonists speed bike and stunning visuals that still are gorgeous to look at today, Akira offers a multilayered story that deals with the nature of power, corruption, youth run amok, rebellion, authority and a quest for acceptance masquerading as rivalry.
This is not only one of the neglected but definite animation epic, but also a science fiction one mixed in with enough pop iconography to establish it as one of the most important movies to come out of Japan.
