Review of Akira (1988) by Donald Z — 10 Aug 2014
This film explores the devastating effect of power well, but mostly power used for evil. It glorifies the destruction aspect of it, seems to not be all that interested in the potential for creation. So I'm not that big a fan.
If you like this movie, well... I'm pretty sure I don't like it. If you see it, I can't promise it'll make you a better person. I can't promise it'll be worth it. It's just blood and violence and the lesson learned seems to be that power corrupts absolutely, but I would just argue that whoever gets that power and uses it wrong was corrupt to begin with, they just now have the means to carry out their corrupt ways easier.
So yeah, blah blah, I can respect some things about it, but I still don't like it. And I don't think it's essential viewing (not that anything is, but there are plenty of movies that I would recommend before this).
