Review of Akira (1988) by Grey S — 25 Jan 2015
The imagery presented in Akira is astounding for it's time; like most anime back in the 80's. There's a balanced mix of psychological distress and dramatic conflict that didn't stray away throughout the film.
With all the hype that surrounds Akira as a cult classic, it came across slightly dated and nothing entirely new from any science fiction based anime of today. The English dubbing wasn't entirely fantastic either but the dialogue was consistent and realistically in sync with the themes and action sequences presented.
Usually the case with Japanese to English translation in anime.
