Review of Akira (1988) by Craig H — 01 Oct 2010
I'll admit it I had no intention of ever seeing this four years ago, but then I discovered the wondrous world of Japanese manga's and animation from Bleach. I soon became an all time fan, but I still avoided this because of the R rating. Last week I finally said " What the heck!" and watched it. It was the most fascinating animated movie I have ever seen, each picture and movement is drawn with incredible detail and amazingly realistic proportion. This is not your typical big-eyed, pretty boy anime that are so popular now, the characters look average but thats what makes them so real! The graphics were spectacular, and the story is completely unique.
And one of my most favorite things about this film is the music, Kaneda's theme is amazing and perfect for the setting. The motorcycle chase, Tetsuo's telekinetic slaughter, and Akira ( the void yet center plot point of the whole movie) make for and mind-boggling adventure. Some people say the story didn't make sense but you just have to pay attention. This is a masterpiece well deserving of its praises. Katsuhiro Otomo's story is perfect for anyone who can appreciated the work put into this movie.
