Review of Akira (1988) by Greg B — 15 Nov 2010
Originally released in 1988. Akira. The bread and butter of Japanese anime. Otomo did for anime, what Kurosawa did for action / adventure films. Setting the standards that would be followed, emulated and carbon copied for next however many decades.
The story is mature, well written, has numerous plot twists and characters that all reach deep development. I have to say this (and the original Predator) stands as one of, if not the, most watched movie for me of all time.
It has yet to be dethroned, and anyone watching with a technical and intellectual eye will catch details and philosophy layered throughout.
