Review of Akira (1988) by Angel J — 03 Dec 2010
This is probably the best anime ever made and one of the best animation spectacles since the original Disney films. This film also changed the bar and coolness of what Science Fiction should be in animation and complex storyline can be delivered through animation as well.
The films delivered eeriness and creepy qualities with the ideas of telekinesis children and odd visuals through the minds of disoriented children. One of my personal and all time favorite animation classics of all time and set the standard for cool looking villains and heroes like Tetsuo and Kaneda.
The story is very sad and disturbing it almost makes you feel bad for Tetsuo but you also learn to love and hate each individual. This film was a story that worked even if it drastically changed the premise of the graphic novels.
Both pieces of work can stand alone in greatness. A Cult Classic Indeed. Overall, this is an animation work that Should be seen by all.
