Review of Akira (1988) by Alan H — 13 Jul 2013
Akira is what people should want to see in animation, everything about it is almost perfect. Crafted by the master TMS Entertainment and distributed by Toho, this movie is a visual and story based feast for anyone.
While I'm not going to talk much about the sub/dub debate, this is a perfect treat in both dubbing and the original Japanese, but if I'd choose one it would have to be in the original Japanese, even if the re-release has given a better dub quality-its just something that should be experienced in the original.
It's a rarity that this movie is seen on the big screen, but if you can get to see it, if it's on somewhere even remotely near you, you should go to see it. While this movie works on Blu-Ray, DVD or DD, the full immersive experience of seeing this at a cinema is completely unparallelled, its a visual treat to see the amazing animation so large and still looking better than half of what's out today and the music(the loud chorus when Tetsuo does his thing is impossible to know unless you hear it)is-once again it's a perfect treat.
It's a brilliant movie and one that anyone should see.
