Review of Akira (1988) by Richford J — 13 Nov 2012
In a world that has moved on to the smooth edges of computer animation and CGI, Katsuhiro Otomo's magnum opus of hand-drawn animation stands as the finest example of it's kind ever put onto film.
On every level it's a visual marvel, and not just for the quality of the animation itself, but for bringing life to a story so excessive and ridiculous that most people's imaginations would otherwise rupture trying to process it.
