Review of Akeelah and the Bee (2006) by Peter W — 28 May 2008

This was a very inspiring movie. I had heard about it and how great it was and I put off watching it because it just looked like another underdog-makes-good story...another Remember the Mighty Miracle Rookie Dodgeball Hoosier, if you will.

But as you get drawn into the story and the amazingly defined (and beautifully acted) characters, you can't help but cheer for Akeelah and her friends by the end. Yes, I was crying by the end - I dare you to have a dry eye by the rolling of the credits.
