While thoroughly predictable, this feel-good movie about a diffident, adorable young girl's aspirations for greatness manages to tell a story that's simple yet potent in its message. Supported by a thoroughly competent cast of screen veterans (Fishburne, Bassett), 'Akeelah and the Bee' puts a fresh twist into the tired underdog film genre.
