Review of Akeelah and the Bee (2006) by Arjan H — 25 Sep 2008
I have to say, I gotta give this movie some credit! It actually was pretty good, When I sat down to watch this delightful movie filled with courage, inspiration and of course alot of difficult words, I thought I was gonna be in for one of those movies you watch just to pass the time. But I was wrong.
I'll start out with the positive: It's definitely a very inspirational movie and it shows that the biggest gifts are given to the most underachieving of people (at first). It had a very good story line. I also found it awesome that the great Morpheus/Laurence Fishburne playing a silent south California spelling teacher instead of a cyber action hero.
There isn't that much negative about this movie only that it could be a little slow at times but it sped up quite fast Overall I'd say it's a very good family movie and a very heartwarming film. I myself wouldn't see myself watching this in the movie theaters but I guess it's good for some people. I'd just download it or watch it on TV.
