Review of Ajami (2009) by Eric R — 21 Jun 2011
Ajami wants to examine the troubled relationship that exists in the middle east between Arabs, Palestinians, Jews and Christians. The film is segmented in five different stories about daily life in Ajami.
Its a non-linear storyline that is quite fragmented because of the five chapters of the film. As the film progresses we start to see how all the stories mesh together. Ajami clearly wants to make a statement about the unrest and unease going on in the Middle East, but honestly, the film really just didnt have much of an emotional impact for me.
Even though the stories do all intersect to some extent the film felt disjointed. I think the intent of the film is much more celebrated than the actually extent in which the film pulled off its intentions.
