Review of Airport '77 (1977) by Bill N — 07 May 2009
What can be said about this film? It's so bad it's good. A follow-up to Airport75 it combines the late 70's pop culture preoccupation with the mysterious and deadly BERMUDA TRIANGLE! The plot sort of works, of course it's helped with Jack Lemmon, Darrin McGavin and James Stewart.
These guys can almost make anything believable as they put their combnied acting chops into it. Universal also upped the budget on this one for the EFX scenes aren't bad with the 747 crashing underwater into the Atlantic.
The subplots are still ridiculous but at least the actors give it thier all and ham it up compared to waifer thin material the actor in Airport 75 had to work with. (A guy takes teh Airport 75 flight just so he can see himself in the inflight movie.
ugh.) Here it's a high class art heist gone spectacularly wrong. If you don't take it seriously, it's the most fun to watch.
