Review of Airport 1975 (1974) by David F — 09 Jan 2010
Probably the pinnacle of 70's disaster film cheese, and the source of no end of material for the Airplane spoofs. All the usual suspects are there - Helen Reddy as the singing nun, Linda Blair as the kid who needs the operation, Sid Caesar trying to do 'Your Show of Shows' without Imogene Coca (complete with double-takes) the sitcom triumvirate of Conrad Janis, Norman Fell and Jerry Stiller as a bunch of drunks, and the insufferable Gloria Swason going on and on about what it means to be Gloria Swanson.
Best part is when George Kennedy gets all misty-eyed when he talks to his wife and 'Joe Patroni Jr.' who are on that plane! Only Myrna Loy comes out unscathed - in fact, it looks like she doesn't know why she's there.
