Review of Airplane! (1980) by Evanna M — 20 Apr 2012
As ridiculous and sometimes childish as it may be, the film that turned Leslie Nielsen into a deadpan star is ultimately one of the greatest comedies ever made. It's a great mix of both visual and spoken comedy, with some of the greatest movie lines ever said (I am serious, and don't call me Shirley) some great sight gags/innuendo (the entire autopilot scene, for one) a jive talk scene complete with subtitles and much more, they threw it all together and they created a winner. Only two other comedies I've seen have managed to create humour sillier and more downright hilarious than this (the two Python films) but this is still up there with the likes of Dr. Strangelove and Some Like It Hot.
