Review of Airplane! (1980) by Jay L — 09 Nov 2011
"Roger, Roger.".
"Whats our Vector, Victor?".
An instant comedic classic at the time of it's release in 1980, Airplane established a cult following upon it's first night of screenings. It's one of those rare films that had me laughing with gut-busting intensity the entire way through. A tremendously fun comedy classic that has aged perfectly, it's lasted decades and remains a cult comedy classic. Decades after it's release, Airplane is still just as funny as some of the comedies that are out today. It was enjoyed by so many that it spawned a sequel, although very much inferior to the first, it was still hugely successful. It's the perfect blend of irreverent, kooky comedy and awful acting. A side-splitting laughfest that more and more enjoyable each time you watch it. Highly recommended to all.
Leslie Nielson's best comedic performance in my opinion. Robert Hayes and Julie Hagerty were hilarious as well. It's also packed with classic cameos by many including and not limited to Kareem Abdul Jabbar.
