Review of Airplane! (1980) by Edgar C — 31 Dec 2012
1980 was the defining year for a developing comedy. The Monty Python team had already proposed, loudly, to be creative, innovative and to screw cinema's objective standards. Nonsensical elements would also suffice. Therefore, parodies held by Mel Brooks and David Zucker started to arise (hell... even Spielberg decided to give it a shot with 1941). As for Airplane!, it is the last extraordinary parody that mocks cinema in its face, being brilliant in its stupidity and placing hilarious gags after more hilarious gags, taking slapstick to an extreme and letting itself to be swallowed by a downwards spiral of comical insanity!
97/100.
