Review of Airplane! (1980) by Franz H — 26 Oct 2015
To determine whether you'll like this movie, decide if you think this is funny:
"Surely you can't be serious".
"I am serious. And don't call me Shirley".
That's an oft-quoted moment of dialog that most people seem to think is hilarious. And the rest of the movie is equally "hilarious". Apparently, the general public just loves this movie, while at the same time admitting it is childish and silly. Well, I agree. Childish and silly. But unlike most, I hated the movie. It wasn't funny. The constant heavy handed sight gags (like when the s**t hits the fan), the thoroughly predictable "jokes" written for 12 year olds, and the constant silliness was just not funny. I guess some folks just like childish silliness, and some just think it's childish and silly. This one borders on unwatchable for me.
