This is as good as a doc on the subject could be. Well, almost. I wish it could've used a few more of the contenders' songs because I was curious about their musical preferences. The smug tone fits the notion behind the competition, so I was fine with it.

The creators were wise to keep the running time as brief as possible and to focus on a few of the entrants. That kept it from being a repetitive parade of lackluster performances. Too bad the DVD didn't update us on subsequent years.
