Review of Air Guitar Nation (2006) by Sinead W — 23 Jul 2007
This film really left me cold at the beginning, watching a load of hipsters blurring the line between having fun and "ironic" appreciation, but I warmed up to it a bit once the action moved to the international competition in Finland, where most of the contestants were endearingly, goofily passionate.
I still felt like a bit of a no-fun wet blanket not to be enjoying it as much as the rest of the people around me, but I guess my take is that air guitar is something you do for fun, not for self-promotion.
In some parts of this film the fun was uppermost, but a lot of it seemed to be about commodification.
