Review of Air Guitar Nation (2006) by Tina L — 23 Nov 2010
Okay, so Air Guitar Nation is not one of those documentaries that tries to change the world. It's pure fun, enjoyment, an expression of freedom and will likely have just as much of an impact as much more high-minded issue docs.
Like King of Kong, Air Guitar Nation gives an intriguing look into an entire world that very few people will witness and even fewer understand, but nowhere near as pretentious or pathetic. In many ways, from workshops to sub-culture rockstars, the air guitar championships are astonishingly similar to the Brave New Voices youth poetry competition, but without any original work.
Air Guitar Nation is filled with colorful people who love their art but never forget to enjoy it. There is even the slightest tinge of social meaning, after all, "If everyone in the world was holding an air guitar in their hands, they couldn't be holding a gun.
