Review of Air Force One (1997) by Deb S — 01 Dec 2009
This is a high-energy thriller centering around the hijacking of Air Force One. Having just told the world that he will not negotiate with terrorists, U.S. President Ford is put to the test when his plane is taken over in mid-air by a group of merciless Russian radicals.
Harrison Ford gives a commanding performance as the President and Gary Oldman is an excellent choice as the villain, snarling and delivering his lines with fierce conviction and was actually quite scary. Overall good support cast that included Glenn Close, Dean Stockwell, and William H. Macy.
This is a storyline that tugs at the very core of a nation, so if you're willing to accept that the USA is the greatest country in the world and all other nations are not to be trusted because they don't have the pure family values of good old Uncle Sam and loads of American patriotism as well, then I have no hesitation in recommending this one for you. You can see it coming and laugh it off but secretly you love the straightforward, homeboy sentiment of this movie.
It's entertaining, electrifying and quite simply a superb action film that's worth viewing at least once..in my case, twice.
