Review of Air Force One (1997) by Jay L — 06 May 2012
"Get Off My Plane.".
It's The Perfect Storm in mid air, an absolutely thrillimg, supremely hardboiled, dramatically intense and utterly action packed extravaganza that delivers all the goods. A hair raising and adrenaline pumping one hell of a damn good time, a brooding, tense, dark and utterly suspenseful work of jack hammer intensity. Director Wolfgang Petersen (Das Boot, The Perfect Storm, Troy, In The Line Of Fire) has crafted a unique and completely over the top action packed thriller that will stay with you for quite some time. A mid air powerhouse that's guaranteed to inject your veins with raw adrenaline and hair raising tension, Air Force One was one of the most memorable action films at the turn of the century. A terrifically high flying and incredibly explosive doom that leaps off the screen and straight into your lap, it's packed with tension from the opening sequence to the explosive finale, the action doesn't stop until the credit roll. Wolfgang Petersen is well known for his films being very vast and epic from Troy to The Perfect Storm and of course the legendary film Das Boot, Air Force One is just another great epic disaster film to add to his expansive film resume. A top notch actioned that reachea out and grabs the viewer and immerses them into a high powered whirlwind of bullets, blood, chaos and high powered weaponry. Any action junky will get their fix of thrilling action and excellent special effects, with many memorable but extremely unrealistic and over the top action scenes and images. If your in the mood for some action, Air Force One will more than please you for 2 hours of your downtime.
Harrison Ford is his usual seriously mannered and extremely talented self, he is fun to watch throughout, but lets face it, the man has aged just a bit. Gary Oldman gives yet another fantastic villainous performance. William H Macy is great. Glen Close is good as well.
