Review of Air Force One (1997) by Rian P — 31 Mar 2013
One of my all time favourites. Used to see this almost every other weekend when I was a kid, and never got tired of it. However, now that I'm older and have more movies under my belt, I can relate to how just one, ''Die Hard,'' directly influenced this with the lone wolf hero, terrorist antagonists and claustrophobic setting (remarkable set piece btw).
.. so I'll have to dock a few points off for its originality, and of course, its plausibility... but those are the only negatives. And regarding that lone wolf, is Harrison Ford the ultimate charismatic hero or what? I can't even phantom the thought of another actor filling his shoes here as an unfuckwithable POTUS.
And Gary Oldman as a Kazakhstani Terrorist?! (dies). Even better. Great supporting performances from the cast, which has the likes of the always dependable Glenn Close and William H. Macy... everyone contributes to what makes this movie better than most in its genre: drama.
Also, I'm a big fan of Jerry Goldsmith's score; it just makes the already fantastic action sequences 2x better, and Wolfgang Peterson's efficient direction puts the cherry on the cake. Rehashed and silly, yes, but a movie which I could probably watch endlessly.
Nothing beats nostalgia!
