Review of Air Force One (1997) by Stephen Z — 25 May 2015
Harrison Ford for President! Joking aside, as one of my favorite actors, it's fun to see Ford take on the role of Commander in Chief in "Air Force One". And though Ford is best known for his action movies, this is not really an action film. "Air Force One" falls somewhere between a drama and a suspense thriller. It's like "The Hunt for Red October", except in the sky.
Despite not being a true action film, Harrison Ford's lead performance is exceptional, and after all these years, it's nice to see he is still kicking butt in what little action there is. Likewise, Gary Oldman brings a lot of menace to his character and makes for a great villain.
Though some of the effects (especially during the aerial dogfights) are bad, "Air Force One" is an all-around good film. The ending scene is especially cool and clever. It's not a super exciting film, but great performances by Ford and Oldman make it an enjoyable one.
