A slow-burner. Or perhaps Southern Sizzler would be a better description.
Not a lot happens, which is fine, unless you need a lot of things to happen to grab and hold your attention.
Wife shoots policeman, husband takes blame, husband goes to jail, husband escapes jail, policeman takes a shine on wife, husband arrives home and they all *don't* live happily ever after.
Beautifully shot. A jangling, understated score. Fine, fine performances.
