Review of Aileen: Life and Death of a Serial Killer (2003) by Owen M — 22 Jun 2007
One of Broomfield's less fantastical documentaries, Aileen shows why Broomfield's direct approach to documentary was such an important development. The opportunity to see inside the maniacal world of a serial killer is only possible through Broomfield's closeness to the subject, a relationship that is disturbing yet intriguing.
Broomfield's can be egotistical yet you can get past this to appreciate what happens on screen. Driving me crazy is still better though.
