Review of Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry (2012) by Brian K — 15 Aug 2012
Important biographical documentary of dissident Chinese artist Ai Weiwei. Probably most well known for designing the Beijing Olympics "bird's nest" stadium and then protesting the displacement of migrants to build it.
The documentary shows how art is, ultimately, about ideas and how those ideas can get an artist in trouble when he lives in a dictatorship that opposes the free flow of ideas. Ai's clever use of the documenting facility of Twitter, helps him expose cover-ups and corruption, including his own assault by members of the police force.
An inspired and inspiring film!
