Review of Aguirre, the Wrath of God (1972) by Kelvin S — 14 Nov 2008
Maddening. The soundtrack is haunting, Kinksi is great as the egomaniac Aguirre, and the movie is just dark as hell. The men start off already heading to their deaths, and we are taken along as the men are picked off one by one.
As they journey farther along the river, the men lose their hope, starve, and eventually go insane. Herzog accomplishes with under 400,000 dollars what Apocalypse Now does with 32 million dollars. In conclusion, this film truly hypnotized me.
