Review of Aguirre, the Wrath of God (1972) by Ben W — 25 Mar 2008
Im always interested in herzogs connection to wilderness of any kind. he draws wonderful stories with and through it whether its along the amazon or on the alaskan plains. he has this reverence for nature, knowing that it is impassive and yet still beautiful.
that its an ugly thing that is often terrible to behold but being so attracted to it that he finds it hard to part with the environment. anyway, the volatile kinki is great in this story of spanish conquistadors searching for el dorado.
the expedition is, of course, doomed before it begins and is often laughable though not in a negative way. but what is really amazing about this is that herzog worked on such limited resources and still pulled it off as well as he did.
