Review of Aguirre, the Wrath of God (1972) by Pamela D — 12 Feb 2009
Man, is Klaus Kinski something! I was totally engaged in the elements of the story. The brutal effects of greed and madness weaved throughout the film. It reminded me of the "Heart of Darkness"/ "Apocalypse Now" but darker with a greater acknowledgment of human nature.
Herzog's choice of location is brilliant which shows the need for nature. Definitely not like the Hollywood films today. Aguirre (Kinski) is disturbing and displays haunting expressions while engaging in the war of man vs.
wild.
