Review of Aguirre, the Wrath of God (1972) by Liam J — 20 Feb 2009
Aguirre and His group of noblemen, warriors and slaves set off through the Amazon to find the lost city of El Dorado. This the goal set in ther hearts they become more ignorant, lost and further into the heart of a cannibal tribe. Throughout this film Aguirre leads a Byzantine power game which they start to crumble from the inside.
The most chilling part of the film is that the enemy is unseen, this means that the further they progress and the more desperate their situation becomes the more paranoid they get, is there really natives after them or is it all in their heads?
Brilliant film from the last practical director left.
