Review of Aguirre, the Wrath of God (1972) by Jeremy P — 03 Mar 2009
I know this will get me lambasted, but this movie is just not that good. Yes, it was influencial, and for that it deserves credit. But it just goes nowhere, and has very little as far as a plot is concerned. And this is coming from someone who generally LIKES slow and philosophical movies. I guess besides the lack of a story and overly drawn out sequences, the biggest problem here is that the rugged filming environment, while admittedly giving it a touch of authenticity, gives one the accurate impression that parts of this movie were just thrown together at the last minute.
To be fair, this movie has qualities that make it worth watching. It's an important film. It's just not a particularly good one.
