"This continent will be ours." "I am the wrath of God." Or so says Aguirre- the lead character in this film- as he floats down a raft on the river and metaphorically, into madness. The conquistadors are looking for El Dorado, the lost city of gold.
Aguirre is a visceral and haunting film from Werner Herzog. Herzog doesn't prefer Hollywood back lots but to drop his cast/crew into the actual jungle. The story behind the filming of this movie is more legendary than the film itself.
