Review of Aguirre, the Wrath of God (1972) by Loris R — 12 Dec 2010
Spanish Conquistadores looking for the Eldorado in the heart of the Amazon jungle find only illness, betrayal and murder, and mad Aguirre always pushing them on, supporting one and then betraying him for someone else.
Until only Aguirre himself is left, a madman ranting on a barge that floats along the river, towards the end of the world, the end of time. What better allegory for political leaders of all ages? What better parable for the passing of humankind on planet Earth?
