The first scene is a magnificent rendering of landscape on film. Something that really encaptivates and mesmirises, as it evolves from a stunning view of a thickly vegetated mountain into a moving mass of Spanish soldiers, traipsing behind each other along the mountain's trail.
What transpires is a great historical epic about a madman driven by his own relentless self-indulgenge and greed for power. It is created in such a visionary fashion by Herzog and acted so trandscendently by Kinksi that I am of the opinion that this is truly one of the most unique and brilliant films I have ever seen.
