Review of Aguirre, the Wrath of God (1972) by Reece M — 11 Mar 2012
Werner Herzog's Aguirre, The Wrath of God is a beautifully shot and scored film about a Spanish conquistador who is consumed by ambition and greed. Aguirre (Kinski)usurps power through sabotage, coercion, and murder and slowly descends into madness as the group of conquistadors travel down the Amazon River. It is a slow but mesmerizing piece of cinema.
Synonymous films with The Wrath of God are Apocalypse Now, Come and See, The Thin Red Line and Valhalla Rising.
