Review of Aguirre, the Wrath of God (1972) by Victor M — 27 Jul 2012
A magnificent Herzog's film. Really, a cult film.
Francis Ford Coppola's 1979 film Apocalypse Now, a film based on Joseph Conrad's 1902 novella Heart of Darkness, was influenced also by Aguirre, as it contains seemingly deliberate visual "quotations" of Herzog's film. Coppola himself has noted, "Aguirre, with its incredible imagery, was a very strong influence. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention it." (Wikipedia).
