Review of Agora (2009) by Patrick C — 26 Jul 2010
A stirring and well produced film about religious decisions and conflicts. Alejandro Amenabar strongly directs a good cast as they play out the persecution of dome of the ancient worlds great, lost thinkers.
The sets are astonishingly well made, detaile and very true to the period. The color scheme, especially for the costumes, is also very accurate. The only time the film loses ground is when it reins in forward movement to listen to musings on the center of the universe.
Otherwise, this film is engaging and thought provoking in it's portrayal of the destructiveness of the (ancient) Christians. A historical epic that should not be missed.
