Review of Agora (2009) by Brad G — 11 Aug 2010
A solid drama depicting the rise of Christianity in Roman Egypt: Meet the New Boss, Same as the Old Boss. Trapped in the middle is Rachel Weisz's Hypatia, a teacher and philosopher desperately trying to solve the riddle of the Earth's rotation while fending the advances of slave boy Max Minghella and brownosing (& excellent gift giver!) Oscar Isaac.
The ignorance depicted in the film can be devastatingly frustrating to the modern viewer, but I found the logic quest and icky love triangle thoroughly engaging. VF.
