Review of Agora (2009) by Denise H — 11 Jan 2011
A spear and sandal movie but one which IMHO shows well how religion can quickly become fanatical in a quest for power. And how innocents are the first who perish when it does. I enjoyed this movie. The most shocking part was not just the genocides committed (in the name of religions) but the destruction of the priceless knowledge in the Alexandrian library.
I nearly cried when the scrolls were burned because of the utter waste. A good movie that shows that Christianity wasn't always the "soft and gentle" religion that historical revisionists would have you believe.
