Review of Agora (2009) by Tim O — 01 Apr 2011
Dramatic tale of a female philosopher in Alexandria during the sack of the library and the turmoil of religion. Rachel Weisz plays Hypatia in an aloof posture and though she is naive you do not really warm to her.
The story of those around her is more compelling, especially the slave played by Minghella. Great visuals with a lot of overhead shots to tie in to the philosophical problem that runs through the film, but ultimately a film without a soul - almost a documentary.
