Review of Agora (2009) by John G — 25 Apr 2011
An absorbing historical drama set in Roman Egypt in the late 4th Century AD. The rising tide of Christianity is appealing to some and threatening to others and inter-religious rivalry is rife. The story revolves around the famous female philosopher Hypatia who is unfortunately caught up in this turmoil of intolerance.
Religion - in particular Christianity - is painted in a poor light in this epic well acted drama. Excellent sets, well choreographed, this is a thoroughly absorbing historical journey.
