Review of Agora (2009) by Ojas V — 20 May 2011
An interesting look at life of the famous philosopher Hypatia, and the tumultuous political climate surrounding her life. Anyone who has an interest in ancient philosophy will surely keep their interest in the film, However, some of the hammy acting and awkward pacing will throw people away from the film.
At times it can be too didactic, and plot driven. With some better character development, it could have been a great film, instead we get a fairly shallow insight into the problems of religious tolerance, and politics.
The film is somewhat redeemed by the thoughtful portrayal by Rachel Weisz. But still, kinda corny!
